State Library of NSW

The State Library of New South Wales is one of Australia’s leading libraries. With an extensive collection of over five million items, the State Library aims to collect, preserve and make accessible the documentary heritage of NSW. The Library also offers access to information and resources both onsite and online, and hosts a dynamic range of public programs through exhibitions, talks, tours and movies. The State Library supports the NSW Public Library Network, administering the annual public library grants and subsidies program. The Library’s mission is to strengthen the community by being the trusted provider of quality information services by:

  • providing equitable access to contemporary and historical knowledge
  • collecting and preserving Australia’s heritage
  • promoting our role as a cultural destination
  • collaborating with the NSW public library network.

Intersect Australia

Intersect Australia Ltd is the eResearch services organisation in NSW. Intersect is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, established by its founding members to provide eResearch services and solutions. Intersect’s establishment was funded through a $2.8M grant from the NSW Government (see media release) via the Office for Scientific and Medical Research.

Intersect services the research sector in NSW, including universities and relevant public and private sector agencies, by developing a concentration of eResearch expertise in the State. Intersect works with the existing technical capabilities of its members and partners to identify, develop and deliver world-class ICT enabled platforms to drive the next generation of research and innovation.

Developing such a coordinated approach to eResearch capacity building is critical to maintaining and enhancing NSW’s status as Australia’s leading research state and positioning NSW to compete favourably in the increasingly globalised and on-line world of research.

Intersect works closely with the Australian National Data Service (ANDS), Australian Research and Education Network (AREN) and AeRO, Australian eResearch Organisations. Intersect is a member of the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) and the Australian Access Federation (AAF).
